Product description

DayZ gives you no map. ZLocator puts you on one.

The app runs beside the game on your phone or tablet. Point the camera at the screen and keep walking: ZLocator matches the terrain it sees against the map, names the town you’re next to, draws your position on the map and shows which way you’re facing. It also lists the nearest wells, military zones, hospitals and shops.

Nothing is installed on the console or PC. ZLocator reads the picture on the screen, so it works with Switch 2, PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and with a screenshot a friend sent you.

The map is free: all three official terrains, Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal, work offline with no account and no time limit. The subscription buys one thing: the app working out where you are.

Available for Android on Google Play and for iPhone on the App Store. The iPhone app requires iOS 18 or later.

Features

Reads the terrain off the screen

Your phone or tablet camera watches the game. Each frame is matched against about a million reference views of the map, and consecutive frames are cross-checked so the marker settles instead of jumping.

Names the town and the heading

You get the name of the nearest town and the direction you’re facing. A readable road sign is the fastest way to confirm it.

Nearest places around you

Wells, military zones, hospitals and shops, with distance and bearing from where you stand.

Every official map

Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal. One subscription covers every map, including the ones added later.

Works with any platform

Switch 2, PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Nothing is installed on the console, because the app only reads what’s on the screen.

Screenshots too

Open a picture a friend sent you on any screen and point the camera at it. The app doesn’t care whether the picture is live or a screenshot.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a map for DayZ?
Not in the game. DayZ ships without one, and the in-game paper map is a rare find. ZLocator is an app you run beside the game: the map of Chernarus, Livonia or Sakhal is in the app, and your own position is drawn on it while you play.

How do I know where I am?
Point the phone or tablet at the screen and keep walking. The app matches the terrain you’re looking at against reference views of the map, names the town you’re next to and shows which way you’re facing. A readable road sign is the fastest way to settle it.

Is any of it free?
The map is. Install the app and you can pan around Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal, read the place names and see every well, military zone and hospital, offline and without an account, for as long as you like. What you pay for is the hard part: the app looking at your screen and working out which of those places you’re standing in. That starts with a 3-day free trial.

Can it find the location in a screenshot someone sent me?
Yes. ZLocator reads a screen, not a game, so it doesn’t care whether the picture is live or a screenshot. Open the image on any screen and point the camera at it. The bigger and brighter the screen, the better it reads. Daylight scenes with buildings or a coastline in view are the easiest; a dark forest is the hardest.

Which maps does it cover?
All three official terrains: Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal. One subscription covers every map, including the ones added later.

Does it work on Switch 2 and consoles?
Yes, and on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The app doesn’t care what’s driving the screen, only what’s on it. Handheld mode works too if the phone can see the display clearly.

How accurate is the position?
Accurate enough to name the town you’re next to and pick the right road out of it. We don’t promise a metre figure, because the honest answer depends on where you are. The first lock usually takes half a minute to two minutes of walking. Deep forest and standing still are the hard cases; a road, a coastline, a landmark or a readable sign is what settles it. It needs daylight in the game.

Do I need a GPS receiver, a compass or the in-game map?
No. The in-game GPS receiver, tourist map and compass are rare finds, need batteries and are usually the first things you lose. ZLocator needs none of them: it reads the picture on your screen, so it works from the first minute of a fresh spawn.
